Types of Gifts:
Individuals give a variety of gifts to help the museum,
including cash donations, planned giving bequests and
items with tangible and intangible value.
Making a Donation:
If you have an object you want to donate, please contact
the Curator»
in that area. Please include a description the object:
its size, condition, age/history and how you came to own
the piece. If you can, send a photograph. Prospective
gifts are carefully evaluated by the curator to make sure
that the object(s) complements or extends the collection,
is well documented and is in good condition. The curator
presents potential gifts to Collections Committees for
recommendation. NOTE: Donations sent to the Museum
before this process must be promptly returned.
For information on monetary donations, ongoing support
through membership and planned giving visit the Museum
of New Mexico Foundation http://www.museumfoundation.org/give.html»
Tax Deductions:
Potential donors should be aware of several tax considerations
when planning gift to the museum. Because of changing
tax laws, potential donors should consult professional
tax experts such as their accountant and attorney when
considering a gift. As a donor, you may be able to take
a tax deduction for all or a portion of the fair market
value of your gift. Consult your tax advisor for details.
Because the museum accepts donations, museum staff is
prohibited from providing any kind of value estimate.
A local dealer involved in the day-to-day business of
buying and selling art or antiques, can usually provide
an estimated retail value for most objects. If you cannot
locate a dealer or appraiser, we will work with you to
find an appraiser.
Time:
Volunteers assist the museum by donating their time and
skills. If you are interested in volunteering, please
contact Aurelia Gomez
by e-mail
or call (505) 476-1211.
