Special Community Art Wall Quilt Display
February 2004

Seven baby quilts made by the Chimayo Valley quilters (PHOTOGRAPH, RIGHT) from
1973 to the present are on exhibit at the Museum of International Folk Art community
Art wall during the month of February. The simple block construction highlights
diverse quilting techniques including appliqué, embroidery and traditional
patterns. All use recycled fabric scraps and include the child's name and date
of birth. The quilts are filled with polyester batting, backed with pinwhale
corduroy and tied with colorful yarn. Instructions for making baby-welcoming
quilts are available at the Museum.
