Docents are the ambassadors for a museum. They share their time and knowledge with our visitors and allow them to explore our exhibitions and collections more deeply. It’s also an opportunity to meet individuals who share the same interests as you. The Museum of International Folk Art offers an intensive docent training every other year. If you are interested in becoming a docent or volunteering with the Education Department, contact Volunteer & Docent Coordinator Dawn Kaufmann, 505-476-1217.
Other volunteer opportunities
The museum has a remarkable and dedicated corps of volunteers doing a wide variety of tasks to help us accomplish our goals. Are you interested in joining us? Here are a few things to consider:
Do you like the idea of learning about folk art and passing on that knowledge to individual visitors and school groups? (If so, see Docent Program above)
Or do you prefer working with art objects in collections?
Can’t get enough of data entry?
Are you great with a camera or a needle and thread?
What specialized skills or knowledge do you have that might be helpful in a museum context?
