Nathan Muus has been a musician singer for many years in the Minnesota/Midwest and California music communities. As an active participant in the North American Saami awakening, he has been the co-editor of Baiki, the North American Sami Journal. for many years. He is the co-author of several books including "The Sami Reindeer People of Alaska", as well as issuing a CD of original music titled "Seven Little Wonders" featuring Joik (Yoik)
Writer, musician, and Joiker, Muus is a Sámi American leader who’s been involved in the Sámi American awakening for 30 years
Of Norwegian/Swedish and Sami family descent, he has long practiced original the Joik (Saami style traditional singing). He will be here today with a small group to play/sing and discuss what is the yoik in Sami culture, and how has it developed- from a North American diaspora experience. On one of a number of original music websites, Soundclick, he has over 85,000 song listens.
Muus is one of original founders of the Sami Cultural Center of North America located in Duluth Minnesota.
